"Okay"

Women Write Now:

Women in Trauma

Curated by Best-selling Author and Editor of SPEAK Magazine Edna J. White, who contributed her own piece "Layers of Me" to the project, Women Write Now compiles the experiences of several writers, professors, artists, and mothers through their own tales of survival and empowerment after life-altering events of violence and domestic abuse.

Okay is a story about grappling with the reality of sexual trauma and figuring out what really is (and isn’t) “okay.”

"Dog in a Box"

Senior Editor

Turner Publishing Company

I am a managing editor at an independent publishing company in Nashville, TN. I work with authors one-on-one and guide them through our process from manuscript submission to publication.

  • Project Management: Manages 30–36 frontlist titles per year across multiple genres. Collaborates with authors, managing editor, production editor, and design manager to ensure all deadlines are met to keep books on track for pub date.

  • Production: Edits descriptive and back cover copy and assists in pitching books to Ingram sales reps each season. Reviews jacket copy and additional backmatter materials.

  • Editorial: Reviews freelancers’ tracked changes, comments, memos, and style sheets for line edits, copyedits, and proofreads. Prepares manuscripts for typesetting with electronic coding.

  • Cover Art Direction: Consults authors about their vision for the front cover, then sources and hires designers that would best execute that vision. Drafts work for hire agreements and tracks all documents and invoices. Collaborates with designers through rounds of comps and revisions. When necessary, integrates text with cover illustrations.

  • Design: Typesets manuscripts and makes all post-typesetting edits in InDesign. Creates cover mechanicals (jacket and wrap), including effects layers when needed.

  • Acquisitions: Screens agented and unagented submissions for managing editor, providing detailed reports of the books’ potential along with sales numbers for comp titles.
